Ringo - The Hit Song

O "número um" da série de televisão da temporada 1964-65 foi Bonanza, e durante esse tempo, o patriarca do clã Cartwright, o ator Lorne Greene, experimentou em ser o "número um" de outra forma - tentar um sucesso entre os 100 colocados na Billboard. Ele conseguiu fazer isso com Ringo, e não uma canção sobre o Beatle Ringo Starr e sim uma gravação declamada sobre um xerife que salvou a vida do pistoleiro Johnny Ringo.

Ringo entrou no Top 40 na parada de 7 de novembro de 1964, e ficou por 10 semanas. A canção alcançou a posição n º 1, que realizou durante uma semana. Ringo foi classificada como o 28o. maior sucesso em 1964, uma posição inferior a Barbara Streisand. Outros artistas no Top 100 desse ano incluiam The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, Bobby Vinton, Dean Martin, e The Supremes.

Johnny Ringo era um pistoleiro que virou xerife. O povo na região de Velardi, Arizona, aparentemente não se importavam com o passado do xerife local, e de fato uma delas ainda muito jovem Laura ajudava-o sempre que necessário em resolver problemas. Thomas Case, o pai de Laura, era um velho bêbado que também atuava em sua própria loja. Ajudando Johnny proteger o povo de Velardi, junto com um jovem prefeito, Cully.

Havia realmente um pistoleiro que virou xerife chamado Johnny Ringo em 1880, embora seja duvidoso que suas façanhas se assemelhavam aos retratados na série.
